Hours

Summer hours begin from 8am - 5pm. Days availble are Monday - Thursday. If Friday is an option for you contact Coach/Mentor Chris Nelson our hours are flexible!

Coach Chris Nelson: Born in 1973 played Baseball and Football at Morse High School in San Diego. He was offered draft by Houston Astros his Senior year but decided to further his education at  San Diego Mesa College where he received an Associates Degree. He was offered draft after his Sophomore season by the San Diego Padres but continued his education with Oklahoma State Cowboys where he was a Starting Pitcher on a scholarship.  He was offered draft by the Florida Marlins at the end of his Junior season and signed with Oakland A's his senior year. *Oklahoma State University Pitcher (1994-1995) *Minor League Pitcher Oakland A's-AAA team (1995-2000) *Most Valuable Pitcher, All Star Team and Strikeout King Awards. 


Coach Adam Rios specializes in strength & conditioning in all sports also nutrition. Former athlete and  youth Mentor/Coach gives our athletes insight on pursuing a healthy career. With proper training and health to prevent injuries to have a successful career. Coach Rios gives all the core fundamental mechanics with over 15 years of experience. ​ 


Wilver Perez (Coach Wil), is our infield coordinator and hitting instructor/Mentor for the AZ Smashers, played for the Kansas City Royals from 2004-2008, also played in the Golden Baseball League from 2009-2011 when on to play 2 years in the Nippon Japanese League in 2012-13.  Also played winter ball in the Dominican Republic for 1 year, Mexico, and Canada.  Bringing 10 years of experience from all over the world, Coach Wil is very knowledgeable about the game of baseball and we are happy to have him on board to help us with the development of our players.

Company Strategies About MVP Youth Behavioral Baseball Academy is a high quality baseball program operating in Phoenix, AZ.  Through our academy, we expose both the family and student athletes to the proper approach to playing the game of baseball and education. We use practice drills, game situations, and

tournament play to teach baseball. We use, life skills training, and teamwork building exercises on how to be successful on and off the field.

Through our approach of therapeutic activities, life skills, and conflict resolution; student athletes will develop a strong character not just within baseball, but also in academic achievement and community involvement.

First-Rate Course Offerings

MVP Youth Behavioral Baseball Academy not only focuses on athletic achievement but also academic achievement of youth. MVP student athletes attend a monthly two (2) hour study session. The study sessions are staffed with volunteer tutors certified by the department of justice from the high school

and university levels. Tutoring is mandatory for our student athletes. Subjects tutored include, but are not limited to math, English, social

studies, and science. MVP Baseball Academy mandates academic excellence in the

classroom by maintaining a 2.2 GPA and/or showing measurable progress towards a 3.5 or higher GPA.

MVP Youth Behavioral Baseball Academy in Arizona is organized by Chris Nelson. MVP San Diego is organized by Lateef Vaughn. The academy was designed to assist at risk youth through the enjoyment in the sport of

baseball. Though baseball is a major focus of the academy, the academy also places a strong emphasis on education, life skills, and community involvement.

The definition of MVP:

● Mental- Through different therapeutic brain exercises we will teach our students how to apply certain techniques for dealing with adversity and conflict

resolution.

● Visual- Through different therapeutic exercises we will teach our students on how to view the correlation between the sport of baseball & everyday

life.

● Preparation- Through a combination of live sports play, mentoring, life skills exercises, and therapeutic mental exercises we prepare our student

athletes for success in and out the classroom.

We have special days for our youth which we take them out to get haircuts, lunch, tours and Big Brother days of just hanging out!
